The Top 10 charting metalcore Brits claim to be heading in a more traditional hard rock direction on their fourth album, and “The Black” and “Just a Slave to Rock N Roll” you can sort of hear it, chugging chunkily beneath angsty emoting and death growls. “Gone,” too, suggests an attempt at a Use Your Illusion-style ballad, complete with chamber-group intro. Meanwhile, “The Lost Souls” starts with Eastern European System of a Down rhythms, and “Send Me Home” suggests fairly twee, daintily harmonized indie rock. But mostly, screamo -- sometimes electronically embellished -- remains their fallback.
