Daddy Sang Bass
Label: Music Row Talent Records, Inc.
If you want a throwback with a little gospel in your oldies, spin Smith and her debonair duet partner Nat Stuckey. Though recorded in the 1970s, Smith's gliding voice channels the '50s. Southern hymns like "Daddy Sang Bass" echo Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline while conventional tracks sound more like Connie Francis singing "Tammy." Even the hackneyed moments are delightful.
