Now a quintet where they used to be a duo, San Francisco’s widely acclaimed ambient black-metal gazers stretch five songs into 46 minutes on their third album. The tracks mostly start with grimy, chunky, chugging riff figures under harsh, mournful gremlin grumbling, turn chimey and tinkly midway, and then explode into Glenn Branca-like crescendos. Opener “Brought to the Water” ends with a keyboard-ish coda that could be Guns N’ Roses in the early ‘90s; closer “Gifts for the Earth” is built on jangling Smiths/Cure-style mope-rock; and “Come Back” really races for a stretch.
