It's No Good
Label: BMG Rights Management / Mute Records Ltd.
Pop remixes were the norm in the '80s, but Depeche Mode has done more than arguably any other group to advance the form, collaborating with the go-to producers of the day, in every style, across their career. The names are all here -- Francois Kevorkian, DJ Shadow, Kruder & Dorfmeister -- and there are ample collaborations (with Underworld, Speedy J, Timo Maas) to remind how central Depeche Mode has been in electronic music's evolution. For anyone that still thinks remixes are mere B-side dressing, check Adrian Sherwood's mindboggling "Are People People?" for evidence of transformative properties.
