I Miss The Misery

The Strange Case Of... is the hard-rock equivalent of Takashi Miike's horrific cinematic examination of male anxiety, Audition. For most of the album, Lzzy Hale plays the role of the femme fatale who's addicted to destroying men: Over thrashy glam riffage, she snarls, "That bitch can eat her heart out" and, even more sinister, "Boy, you better run for your life/ Welcome to the nightmare in my head." Hale is smart enough to know this only turns men on more, though she lets her guard down on the power ballads "In Your Room" and "Break In." Then again, that's what power ballads are for, right?
