Look To Your Soul (1998 - Remaster)
Johnny Rivers, much like the great Dion DiMucci, is a versatile rock and roller with a thirst to try just about anything and everything: bubblegum, supper-club schmaltz, hard rock, blue-eyed soul, country-folk, etc. On his 1968 opus Realization Rivers combined all these styles, drenching them in hazy psychedelia. Most "straight" entertainers who attempted to "turn on, tune in, drop out" failed. But Rivers was an exception. He wound up producing a record filled with mellow and lush gems. Sacrilege to admit, yes, but his version of "Whiter Shade of Pale" very nearly matches Procol Harum's.
