Keep Coming Back
Label: Atlantic Records
Marc Broussard, along with JJ Grey & Mofro, represent a new generation of husky Southern growlers revisiting the vintage blue-eyed soul of Delaney Bramlett, Joe South and Tony Joe White. But where Grey also digs into sweaty blues rock, Keep Coming Back finds Broussard wrapping his voice in funky, orchestral soundscapes inspired obviously by Curtis Mayfield and early-'70s Isaac Hayes. This guy can flat-out croon. On the country ballad "When It'd Good" he even goes toe to toe with LeAnn Rimes.
