Who would've thought Rob Thomas would become the seismic force he did? It's easy to forget how unknown and anonymous his band was in 1996, until hit after hit slowly unfolded from their diamond-certified debut, Yourself or Someone Like You: the violent "Push," the venting "Long Day," the yearning "3 a.m.," the floating "Back 2 Good" and the ordinary guy's workaday dream "Real World." If you go by his lyrics, fame only seemed to confuse Thomas more, as the maximal "Bent" would opine. Judging by this collection, though, we think he'll be just fine.
