Happy to You
After tearing up indie dance floors with the electro-pop sheen of their debut album (and hit "Animal"), the Swedish/American trio dishes out post-club grooves on sophomore effort Happy to You. The band sounds tamed, favoring heaps of woozy synth tricks, reverb and highly affected vocals, like on "Black Tin Box," where Lykke Li's coos melt through almost unnoticeably. Much of the album blends MGMT's falsetto psychedelia ("God Help This Divorce") with Death Cab's restrained indie pop ("The Devil's Work"). The most "Animal"-istic track doesn't come until the end with the bouncy "Paddling Out."
