Closing in on two decades as a recording entity, Sweden's reformed death metallers have long been an unusually reliable prog-rock quintet. They're an increasingly rustic one, too: See the rainy-moor melancholy ("Elysian Woes"), the Celtic Led Zep III intros ("River"), plus some Fairport Convention Stonehenge folk ("Moon Above, Sun Below"). Mikael Åkerfeldt's croon has taken on a flamboyance reminiscent of Ian Anderson, with nods to the Middle East. When he opts not to sing, we get the almost dancey instrumental "Goblin," presumably a tribute to the Italian soundtrack-proggers of the same name.
