Art Official Age
Label: Warner Bros.
Only a killjoy would claim that Art Official Age can't compare to Prince's '80s classics. Simply put, this is a fun theme on reclaiming one's humanity in a technological society. It's filled with the kind of quirks that mark his latter-day material, like the xylophone plinks and helium voices on "Breakfast Can Wait," "Art Official Cage"'s post-millennial mash of dance-pop and trap bass, and airy duets with Andy Allo on "What It Feels Like" and "Time." Even a throwback like "Gold Standard" proves he can't just zone out on the funk anymore -- he's got too many good ideas for that now.
