The Book Of Rashia
Label: Raw Koncept
Ten years out of the game haven't dulled Rah Digga's tongue or her pen, and this lean album strikes a dagger in the heart of club-ready, cameo-heavy hip-hop. Nottz's top-shelf production roots through '70s funk and soul to provide a gritty counterpoint to the former Flipmode emcee's grinding, borderline-monotone flows. Digga may not be a great stylist, but it's a relief to hear a rapper rap without Auto-Tune or cheap pandering to the clubs: This is hip-hop as communication, not simply entertainment. As Digga herself says, "Hip-hop ain't dead/ It took a long winter's nap." We say: welcome back.
