Raheem DeVaughn never broke through to a wider audience despite quality albums like The Love Experience. Perhaps it was because he didn't have a big single, or couldn't quite distance himself from other neo-soul balladeers like Dwele and Anthony Hamilton. His first indie album since his early days in Washington D.C. is another impressive suite of slow burners like "Love Connection," "Wrong Forever," "Complicated" and "Greatest Love." It lacks the social insight of his best work, but adult R&B fans should enjoy A Place Called Love Land.
