Valley Of Death
Label: Def Jam Recordings
Rick Ross presents a (slightly) kinder, gentler version of his patented mafia music formula. The production is lush, relaxed and sun-dappled, with hints of island music, breezy '80s pop and sweeping Miami synth-hop. And while Ross still finds time to remind us he made his money from dealing massive amounts of cocaine, he focuses more on the accruements of the crime life rather gory gun play. It's epicurean gangsta rap -- assured, supple and surprisingly sexy.
