Hit to Death in the Future Head
Label: Warner Records
The Lips' first record for a major label finds them making wise use of their newly deep pockets: Their music remains as weird as their titles ("Talkin' Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues," anyone?), but the layered effects sound less like accidental discoveries and more integral to the songs themselves. If the songs themselves aren't as immediately arresting as one has come to expect, they do still linger in the brain days after one is done listening.
