Fury Of Chonburi
Label: Virgin Emi
The most honestly dissolute British band of the ‘00s has spent 11 acrimonious years apart, passing through multiple side projects (Babyshambles, Dirty Pretty Things) and a successful rehab stint for co-frontman Pete Doherty. But their nimble, heartfelt strut is still present. This grab-bag of new songs, along with some scraps, doesn't have the band's old crunchy attack. (The Clash's Mick Jones is gone as producer, replaced by Ed Sheeran co-writer Jake Gosling), but the guitars are back to their spidery flirting, and Doherty's congested blare still relishes anthems about rock n’ roll's bliss ("Barbarians") and hustle ("Fame and Fortune").
